Factors influencing Drug Prescription Behavior of Physicians in India
31 August, 2019
The Pharma Review
In India, patients buy medicines as per the prescription of Physicians. Thus, Physician’s prescription is a decision to buy the product on behalf of the consuming end-user. So, most of the pharma companies leverage their marketing tools to influence Physicians to prescribe their products. Faced with a number of competing alternative branded products (with similar ingredients) but different prices , physicians have to decide – which product to prescribe. Besides medical factors, a number of non-medical factors weigh on the minds of the Physicians, while prescribing. On the other hand, some consumers are becoming more knowledgeable and also are posing searching questions to the Physicians and are even suggesting alternatives. However, the factors that finally influence the Physician’s prescription depend on his depth of professional knowledge as well as his personality, which includes his values and ethics. Most of the studies, conducted with regard to Physician’s prescription behavior, so far, related to the product and promotion.
aspects, with limited focus on the role of Physician’s personality traits and demographics of the patients. An attempt is made in this article to make a comprehensive analysis of all the factors, which includes personality traits of Physicians. This will help the Pharma industry to understand the dynamics of prescribing behavior of Physicians , especially impact of physician’s personality attributes , so as to optimize the return on their marketing spend.

An analysis of Roadway Service Indicators – A comparative study of six tollways in Pune Region
31 August, 2017
IUP Journal of Operations Management /IUP
The Pune Metropolitan region has vast road and highway network, consisting of National highways, State highways and Expressways, developed by private firms. The toll roads in Pune region have been operational for quite some time and were expected to reduce travel time and improve connectivity for the region. The network of toll roads carries huge amount of traffic and generates large toll revenue for the road developers and contributes to the regional economy to a considerable extent. However, there has been discontent among most of the travelers that the system is not able to provide the mandated road user services, reflected in service indicators such as safety, security, and wayside amenities. The present study aims at evaluation of road user services and ranks six toll roads which are working under similar operating conditions. The toll roads considered for the study include the segments of four National Highways, one State Highway and one Expressway. Methodology used for evaluation and assessment of road services was by way of surveying travellers’ perceptions on various service parameters and the opinion scores assigned to these parameters. The study can form the basis for taking decisions on toll road system improvements from service aspects with a view to improve road user satisfaction.

An Analysis of Requirements Prioritization in Large, Medium, Small Software organizations
15 October, 2016
The IUP Journal of Computer Sciences / ICFAI University Press
Software products, solutions being developed at Large, Medium and Small Software Organizations, go through similar processes. Yet, due to the nature of software developed, there are variations in relevant parameters’ in-fluence on Requirements Prioritization. A study is carried out to analyze the Requirements prioritization across 61 organizations with 106 participants. The study focused on analyzing the common aspects and variations across Large, Medium and Small organizations. Parameters used in practice and the order, they are used are identified across the organization
Internet of Things – Cyber Security Challenges
15 December, 2016
Internet of Things / ICFAI University Press
From home automation devices to nuclear power stations to cars, ‘Things’ as in “Internet of Things” are increasingly becoming vulnerable to attack. Recent attacks orchestrated with the help of IoT devices, crippled key Internet services, leading to loss in business as well as availability of critical services, from healthcare to utilities. Such instances highlight the criticality of Cyber Security and adoption of Security Best Practices for Connecting Devices to Internet so that a more secure environment is created for adoption of IoT in real-life applications . This paper provides an overview of Cyber Security challenges posed by proliferation of IoT , taking the example of the case study of IoT driven Cyber Attacks, executed in Oct 2016. It also discusses potential options to mitigate these risks.
Technology behind Internet of Things
30 June, 2016
Internet of Things / ICFAI University Press
IoT applies to an emerging set of technologies, protocols and patterns for the collection, aggregation, analysis and actioning of intrinsic, latent data, and the management of this process. Data is “latent” in the sense that it exists in the physical world but without IoT technologies. IoT patterns, technologies and protocols can be in a similar way to the traditional 7-layer OSI networking “stack”. The IoT Cloud has distinct layers of data storage and data processing applications.

WORLD CLASS ENGINEERING EDUCATION TO MAKE INDIAN ENGINEERING WORLD CLASS
19 December, 2014
Institution of Engineers -Indian Engineering Congress
World Class Engineering refers to adherence to the best Global Quality Standards in every phase of Engineering from R&D till manufacturing, testing and commissioning. Engineering profession in the next two decades will undergo dramatic changes, driven by not only technological developments but also societal transformation. Besides increased globalization , more acute concern for environment for sustainable development will characterize changes and challenges for future engineers in their roles. As industry increasingly looks at Corporate Social Responsibility not just as mandatory but as key to success, future engineers should change their mind sets and incorporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility as key parameters in their day-to-day working as well as decision making framework. As roles of future engineers expect different sets of competencies from the graduating engineers, it is the responsibility of the educational institutions to reinvent themselves and brace themselves for a paradigm shift in the way, students are groomed to match the changed expectations. Consequently , the way the components of education namely , knowledge, skills and attitudes & values , are to be imparted has to be different. Contents as well as pedagogy will need to be changed accordingly. This tectonic shift will pose challenges to all the stake holders – educational institutions, industry, government , teachers and students . All of them need to work together as partners to address the challenges. It also calls for change in mindsets of all stake holders so that the transition is smooth and successful. Concerted and synergistic efforts from all of them will help to make Indian Engineering Education world class so that Indian Engineering becomes truly World Class , which will enable the dream of seeing “Made in India” products all over the world, a reality.
